Healgen® Dip Tests can be effectively used to test for Methylphenidate (MPD). Methylphenidate (MPD) is a psycho stimulant drug approved for the treatment of ADHD or Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity-Disorder, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and narcolepsy. Methylphenidate primarily acts as a norepinephrine-dopamine re-uptake inhibitor. Methylphenidate is most active at modulating levels of dopamine and to a lesser extent norepinephrine. Similar to cocaine, methylphenidate binds to and blocks dopamine transporters and norepinephrine transporters. Methylphenidate has both dopamine transporter and norepinephrine transporter binding affinity, with the dextromethylphenidate enantiomers displaying a prominent affinity for the norepinephrine transporter. Methylphenidate may also exert a neuroprotective action against the neurotoxic effects of Parkinson's disease and methamphetamine abuse. Methylphenidate taken orally has a bioavailability of 11-52% with a duration of action around 1-4 hours for instant release, 3–8 hours for sustained release, and 8–12 hours for extended release (Concerta®). The half-life of methylphenidate is 2-3 hours, depending on the individual. The peak plasma time is achieved at about 2 hours. The MPD Rapid Dip Test is a rapid urine screening test that can be performed without the use of an instrument. The test utilizes the antibody to selectively detect elevated levels of Methylphenidate (MPD) in urine. The MPD Rapid Test Cassette (Urine) yields a positive result when the Methylphenidate (MPD) in urine exceeds the cut-off level.
