What's Included?

iCup comes with kit, cup, security seal, and drug screen result form. The iCup drug screen result form shows a diagram of the iCup and gives an example of positive results, negative results & invalid results. The form provides the names of each drug and their abbreviations making your job easier! Not to mention a product insert, a step by step instruction display for your staff. The iCup drug screen includes a temperature strip located on the back of the cup. This helps to insure specimen integrity. The I-Cup drug screen also includes a quality control device built into the test itself, and a red line in the control region (C) is considered an internal procedural control. It confirms sufficient specimen volume, adequate membrane wicking and correct procedural technique.

* Detection times are not guaranteed. This assay provides only a preliminary test result. A more specific alternative chemical method must be used in order to obtain a confirmed analytical result. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) is the preferred confirmatory method. Clinical consideration and professional judgment should be applied to any drug of abuse test result, particularly when preliminary results are positive.

NOTE: The above chart gives approximate detection periods for each substance by test type. The ranges depend on amount and frequency of use, metabolic rate, body mass, age, overall health, drug tolerance, and urine pH.
Adulteration Tests (Substance Validity Tests)
Urine sample adulteration is usually achieved by substitution, dilution or the addition of adulterants including so-called "masking agents" sold commercially. The use of adulterants can cause false negative results in drug tests by either interfering with the test and/or destroying drugs present in the urine. Dilution may also be used in an attempt to produce false negative drug test results. The adulteration test is based on the color response of chemical indicators in the presence of adulterants. pH (pH), Specific Gravity (SG), Oxidant/PCC (OX), Creatinine (CR), Nitrite (NI) and Glutaraldehyde (GL) are tested to determine the integrity of urine samples.
pH The pH determination of urine samples is based on the color change of an indicator in an acidic or basic medium. Normal urine pH ranges from 4 to 9. Values outside of this range may indicate the sample has been altered.
Specific Gravity The specific gravity test is based on the pKa change of certain pretreated polyelectrolytes in relation to the ionic concentration. In the presence of an indicator, the colors change from dark blue to blue-green in urine of low ionic concentration to green and yellow- green in urine of higher ionic concentration. The normal range for specific gravity is from 1.003 to 1.030. Values outside this range generally indicate specimen dilution or adulteration.
Oxidants & PCC (Pyridinium Chlorochromate) Bleach, hydrogen peroxide, pyridinium chlorochromate or other oxidizing agents react with an oxidant indicator to form a color complex. A blue-green, brown, or orange color indicates adulteration with bleach or other oxidizing agents. Normal human urine should not contain oxidants.
Creatinine Creatinine reacts with an indicator in an alkaline medium to form a purplish-brown color complex. The normal range of creatinine is from 20 to 300 mg/dl. Values outside this range generally indicate a manipulated test.
Nitrite Nitrite reacts with the reagents aromatic amine to form a diazonium salt which couples with an indicator to yield a pink-red/purple color complex. A urine sample containing nitrite at a level greater than 15 mg/dl is considered adulterated.
Glutaraldehyde Adulterants such as "Clear Choice" contain glutaraldehyde which may cause disrupting the enzyme used in some immunoassay tests. Glutaraldehyde is not normally found in human urine.

The iCup Rx Drug Screen Cup (I-RXA-157-01 listed above) is the simplest, self-contained one step drug test for 5 prescription drugs relevant to clinicians and addiction professionals. Prescription drug abuse impacts millions—affecting both men and women, and people of any age. Using the Alere iCup® Rx drug test for a targeted list of prescription drugs provides rapid results to help clinicians determine the most appropriate treatment and improve patient outcomes. Results are visible in minutes. A positive result is indicated with one line and a negative result with two. An additional bonus with the iCup is that you may photocopy the results allowing you to maintain a visual record of the test. Built-in Adulteration for 5 parameters is built into this cup.

Commonly Prescribed and Misused Drugs
Benzodiazepines Buprenorphine Methadone Opiates Oxycodone
Central nervous system(CNS) depressants commonly prescribed for short-term treatment of anxiety and insomnia. Psychological and physical
dependence can develop with high doses over prolonged period.
Potent analgesic often used in the treatment of opioid addiction. Therapeutically used as a substitution treatment for opioid addicts.
Sold under the trade names Subutex™, Buprenex™, Temgesic™, and Suboxone™.
Synthetic analgesic drug originally used for the treatment of narcotic addiction and pain management. Effects are analgesia, sedation,
and respiratory depression. Overdose may cause coma or even death.
Codeine, heroin, and morphine are CNS depressants. At high dose, produce euphoria and anxiety release. Physical dependence leads to
depressed coordination, disrupted decision making, decreased respiration, hypothermia, and coma.
Semi-synthetic opioid with a structural similarity to codeine. Produces potent euphoria, analgesic and sedative effects, and has a
dependence liability similar to morphine.
